Buca delle Fate

An evocative name for a corner of paradise on the slopes of the Baratti promontory

You reach Buca delle Fate after a wonderful 25-minute walk through the Mediterranean scrub. A corner of paradise where you can stay in contact with the wildest nature. The sea is perfect for snorkeling. Our advice is to go early in the morning or out of season because in summer it can be very crowded. There are no bars or refreshment points, so bring water before you leave!

To reach this bay, follow the signs for Populonia Alta and then, after passing the Gulf of Baratti, when the road begins to climb towards the promontory, you will find a car park on the left. Leave your car there and you will find signs for the path. Pay attention to the first fork, you need to follow path number 301. The road continues slightly downhill, among myrtles and holm oaks. You will also pass some Etruscan tombs, remnants of a civilization that had an important settlement on the Baratti promontory.
