Rich in history and a must-see in every season...

The Gulf of Baratti is characterised by a long golden beach surrounded by a beautiful pine forest and a large lawn where it’s lovely to relax, have a picnic and fly kites with the children. The Gulf has a unique history; in Etruscan times, it was used as a port and for ironworking. It is precisely this ancient activity that makes it so special today, as the sand is still rich in iron residues that look like glitter! If you dig, you can even find more significant artefacts. The area’s Etruscan history is also evident in the numerous archaeological sites surrounding the beach.

In Baratti, you’ll find bars and a fully equipped beach from May to September. In the pine forest, there’s a famous little stall where you can enjoy delicious sandwiches made to order, and in the main car park, one of our favourite kiosks: Il Polpo di Baratti, with outdoor tables – perfect for an aperitif at sunset overlooking the sea! 

For those who love a walk, you can reach another pebble and rocky beach via a path that winds through the Mediterranean scrub and along the coast. This beach is perfect for snorkelling! You’ll find the path starting from the main car park next to the La Perla restaurant.
