An authentic village in Val di Cornia

A delightful village perched on a rock surrounded by woods, Sassetta exudes authentic charm. It hosts numerous festivals throughout the year and is a must-visit destination in summer if you’re looking for a bit of cool air, and in autumn for chestnut picking. Amidst the village’s narrow streets, small squares, stone houses clinging to one another, and little restaurants, you’ll discover the charm of slow tourism. 

The village was built in the year 1000 and has remained unchanged, preserving its original architecture. Numerous works of art are on display throughout the village. 

The surrounding area offers a range of opportunities for excursions, walks, mountain biking and trekking. The historic centre of Sassetta retains its medieval character, with narrow cobbled streets, ancient stone houses and a parish church dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The village is very picturesque and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Spas, trekking and gastronomy

Sassetta is also known for its thermal springs, which have been used since Roman times. The nearest ones are those at Ceretta; we’ll tell you more about them here.

From Sassetta, you can explore the 37 km of trails in Poggio Neri Park, on the lookout for woodland wildlife and the charcoal burners’ huts. Alternatively, head to the thermal springs at Ceretta for a relaxing day out.
