Discover the estate and its bio-integral philosophy
Just a stone’s throw from the village of Suvereto lie numerous wineries. Each one tells a story of passion and dedication, of hard work and experimentation, which over time has led to the production of wines of the highest quality. A trip to Val di Cornia cannot be considered complete without a visit to one of the many wineries offering ‘Wind tasting’ tours and a host of other activities.
Today I’d like to introduce you to a winery that has impressed me with the care – including the architectural design – taken with its spaces and the surrounding landscape, as well as the philosophy underpinning its operations.
Artisanal Winemaking
One of Tenuta Casadei’s defining features is its commitment to artisanal winemaking. Here, winemaking is an art, and every step of the process – from harvesting the grapes to ageing in wooden barrels – is carried out with skill and dedication. Guests are invited to take part in guided tours of the cellars and wine tastings, where they can discover the excellence of the Tuscan wines produced on the estate. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Muscat grapes are harvested by hand, just as they used to be.
The BioIntegral Philosophy
Tenuta Casadei embraces the BioIntegrale philosophy, which is based on principles of sustainability, respect for nature and the terroir, and the desire to create high-quality products that reflect the authenticity of the place. This approach translates into organic farming and winemaking, the preservation of the surrounding ecosystem, and respect for the environment – all within a long-term vision that harmonises production needs with the requirement to minimise human intervention. The BioIntegrale method is a genuine philosophy of thought and production, which I invite you to discover for yourselves on the estate’s website.
A few snaps from the tour of the winery. Every detail, both inside and out, is the result of careful research and reflects the care the estate puts into its products.
Activities on offer: from wine tastings to picnics in the vineyard
Tenuta Casadei offers a wide range of activities, designed to immerse guests in the culture and beauty of Tuscany. You’ll find a PDF at the bottom of this post listing all the activities and their prices. The experiences range from the classic tour with wine tasting, exploring the BioIntegrale philosophy, to more unique activities, designed to let you experience the estate in a different and original way.
The vineyard picnic is undoubtedly my favourite activity. The estate provides participants with a map of the vineyard along with a basket containing everything needed for a picnic (as well as a bottle of wine, of course!). Guests are free to stroll amongst the rows of vines, in the garden, around the lake, and stop to eat wherever they like, with complete freedom. It’s a perfect way to connect with nature and enjoy the tranquillity of the Tuscan countryside.
For those with children or looking for a more ‘comfortable’ and romantic option, the horse-drawn carriage tour through the vineyard rows is undoubtedly another very special experience. My children were spellbound by the estate’s horses and didn’t want to leave them!
Tenuta Casadei in Suvereto is an extraordinary place that combines the natural beauty of Tuscany with a passion for wine and sustainability.
