Piombino charms travellers who take the time to explore it at a leisurely pace, as it has so much to offer. Starting from its historic centre, brimming with bars, restaurants and pizzerias to suit all budgets, and leading on to the beautiful Piazza Bovio – a vast terrace overlooking the sea, which alone makes a visit to the town worthwhile. On clear days, from here you can catch a glimpse of the islands of Montecristo, Giglio, Capraia and Follonica.

We recommend a visit to the extensive Archaeological Museum of the Populonia Area, with 1,800 square metres of exhibition space dedicated to the history of the region from its origins to the Etruscans. The Castle is also open to visitors and houses a museum illustrating the history of Piombino and its defensive systems, as well as a collection of medieval majolica. If, on the other hand, you head down towards the small harbour, you’ll find other picturesque spots, local venues, restaurants and bars for aperitifs. Watching the harbour at sunset is truly a marvel!
