Summer in Suvereto 2023: the complete program

Events, music, parties and culture in the village

A rich program to animate the village during the summer. Also this year Suvereto hosts and organizes numerous events for all tastes.

Unmissable are the Medieval Evenings, on 22-23 July, the traditional Emperor’s Palio on 13 August and the appointment with Calici di Stelle, on 10 August. Borgo dei Ragazzi and ArtinBorgo are two other events not to be missed and take place in Autumn. Great attention is also paid to classical music, with the precious contribution of the Ente Puccini Philharmonic.

Philharmonic Puccini Suvereto

Let’s start with the rich program of concerts by the Ente Puccini Philharmonic of Suvereto. The Season is focused on enhancing the new generations: the programming aims to offer more opportunities for visibility and collaboration between young musicians, students and recent graduates, professionals and experts around an idea of “get together with music”; the complete programme, which involves both adults and children, can be consulted here. This year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Philharmonic Society of Suvereto.

Medieval Evenings in Suvereto

Electricity reduced to a minimum, people are lit up with torches and candles, with hundreds of villagers in costume, transformed into ancient craftsmen and housewives who offer the focaccias of the time, while on the street corners they change euros with the ancient Suvereto coins , and at the Rocca the militia of the Aldobrandeschi counts and the armigers of the people camp and in the streets they celebrate with musicians and jugglers. medieval evenings end with the historical re-enactment, at night, of the granting, in 1201, of the Charta Libertatis to the community of Suvereto by Ildebrandino VIII, as palatine of the Aldobrandeschi of Sovana. Over a hundred figures are part of the characteristic Historical Procession, with dignitaries, armigers, guests of other castles, and animated by the characteristic and picturesque group of commoners with their poor means, the farmyard animals, who bring gifts to the lord.

Calici di Stelle a Suvereto

The night of August 10 is dedicated to shooting stars and wine. Organized at the same time in the municipalities of the Città del Vino Association, the event is held until late at night. The medieval village is transformed into an immense living room, along a food and wine itinerary, with hundreds of tables decorously ready to welcome the thousands of visitors who come to taste the great wines of the Suvereto cellars, now known throughout the world, served in large personalized glasses, combining them with tastier dishes from restaurants, wine bars, bakers and shops selling typical products, offered on stalls along the edge of the streets.

The Race of the Barrels

The Palio delle Botti is held twice a year: for the Palio of S. Croce, patron saint of Suvereto (in the month of May), and for the Palio dell’Imperatore, at night, on the eve of August 15th. A difficult and tiring race in which teams of “pushers” make 500-litre barrels (empty) run on the ancient pavement of the Historic Center. It is part of the National barrel racing circuit of the Association of Wine Cities.
